THE GOSPEL

The word Gospel means good news.

Have you thought about the best piece of news that you’ve ever gotten?

Maybe it was:

  • The day you got the dream job you were waiting forever for.
  • Or was it the day that one special person agreed to go on a date with you?
  • Perhaps it was the time you learned you landed the acting part in that T.V. commercial.
  • Or maybe it was the moment the love of your life said, “Yes” when you asked her to marry you?

These are examples of good news for sure. Even if you haven’t experienced a lot of good news in a big way, there are always the smaller, nice surprises that life seems to bring, no matter how difficult the journey has been.

But did you know there is one piece of good news that tops anything that you might have heard? A piece of good news so life changing and transforming that everything that’s ever happened to you pales in comparison. It’s not simply just good news:

It is the Good News.

What kind of news could be this incredible? This is it:

  • God is real.
  • God loves and cares about you in the most incredible way.
  • There is a way to know God and to have a personal and dynamic relationship with Him.

Amazing isn’t it? Take a moment to think about what this means. This means that there is so much more to your existence than what you see and feel. Pain, loneliness and disappointment don’t have to be what your life is all about.

However messed up or empty your life might be, it doesn’t have to stay that way.

It doesn’t matter what ugly thing might have happened to you, or what shameful thing you may have done, there is someone who loves and cares about you no matter what.

This is the Good News and what the Bible is actually all about. The good news is not difficult to understand nor is it complicated.

Here’s how it works:

  • There is a great divide between God and you. It’s a chasm so wide that not one person, on their own, can cross it without help. This chasm is called SIN. There are several different concepts about this word, but sin literally means missed the mark. Sin simply means that we ALL have failed or made mistakes.
  • Our mistakes or sin separate us from God. God is perfect and good in every way, and mistake-ridden people simply can’t stand to be in the presence of such overwhelming goodness! Whether really big or small, one mistake is enough to separate us from God, making it impossible to know Him.
  • God in His love for us came up with a plan to bridge this great divide. Despite our mistakes, He created a solution to the problem of separation or sin. God sent His only son, Jesus, to the earth to take upon himself the penalty that our mistakes deserved – separation from God. Through the sacrifice of his death, he removed our mistakes in order to make us perfect in God’s eyes.  After giving his life for you and I, he was raised from the dead, fully alive, and now acts as the bridge between God and us.

Here is the most exciting part about the Good News.

All you have to do to receive it is to simply believe in these truths:

  • The reality of your mistakes or sins
  • God’s love for you
  • The sacrifice that Jesus made to wash away your sins

And your life can be radically transformed with new meaning and purpose through a dynamic relationship with God!

That’s what the Good News is all about, and you can be part of it by simply believing in Jesus.
