There’s no doubt about it; thousands of
books claim to be the one. There hasn’t been a religious group
or movement that hasn’t proclaimed their writings as the sacred
texts that hold the truth about all things. Many of those
groups have faded along with their so-called sacred writings.
But one religious book is different:
For many generations and thousands of years,
no book has been the source of more controversy and dotion.
The Bible has been:
- Translated into countless languages
- Banned, burned and mocked
- Looked to for answers to almost erything
from prophecy to politics
- The measure of good and evil
throughout history
Why is this volatile book so popular and
still on bookshelves around the world thousands of years after
it was written? What is contained in the pages of this controversial
manuscript that causes so many extreme reactions?
The answer to these questions is relatively
easy.
The Bible is a collection of seral smaller
texts called books. Various authors who lived in
the region of the Middle East wrote these books of the Bible.
The Bible was penned over a period of time stretching from
the early Bronze Age to the end of the Roman Empire. Together
these books tell an epic story about God’s involvement with
the ancient nation of Israel and His interaction with mankind
in general.
It describes His life and death along with
the actions of the followers of Jesus.
These men and women called themselves “Christians.”
What makes the Bible so important to people
today is that it claims to be more than just a collection
of historical facts. The Bible says some extremely important
things about itself and about the ents it describes:
- The Bible claims to be written
by God. It was God
Himself inspiring the different authors to write
what they did.
- The Bible is perfect.
Since the words and teachings are God’s own, they are truth
that you can trust in.
- The Bible is a road map
directly to God. The purpose of the Bible
is to tell us how we can personally find God.
- The Bible claims to be alive!
More than just words on a page it is the living
voice of God.
Although made up of many different books
and hundreds of pages, all the stories fit together to tell
us one amazing singular truth:
